Driving School

A friend at work shared this with me after telling her about a visit in a client's home. The daughter in law would could not stop talking. It was amazing annoying. And I just think this video is very funny.

Today's list:
• lush lemon groves
• messages delivered on silver trays
• brick pizza ovens
• a path of white pebbles
• an afternoon without hassles

I think all of these are nice items. I've never gotten a message delivered on silver trays, though. I might think that's a little silly if it came to me that way ... I'm okay with others getting messages in that fashion. Brick pizza ovens are nice to look at and nice to have my pizza cooked in, but I'd not like one in my house. A path of white pebbles is nice. I'm not sure what an afternoon without hassles is. LOL

I'm going with lush lemon groves. I have an aunt who lives in the Pasadena CA area who has a lemon tree in her back yard. When I was a kid, I'd get to go pick one and I'd eat it. I love lemons. I also had a skin discoloration issue on my face when I was younger and someone told my mom that to rub lemons on it would heal it. I don't know if it worked or not, cuz now I just have a huge freckle there, but I loved eating the lemons.

Today's list:
• a grand hotel on the coast

I know it's been a long time since I've had time to do this. So today's is a good one to get back in with. There are a few I can pass on right away. Striped headbands. Reminds me of a bad actor. Edamame, I had to look it up!

So I'm thinking about poached eggs on English muffins. I love that. Haven't had them in a very long time. Might have to make some sometime soon. I'd love to take a vacation and stay in a grand hotel on the coast! I'm overwhelmed and that speaks to me. But those long-burning candles ... I love candles. So I think what I need is to take a vacation to a grand hotel on the coast, place long-burning candles all over the room, and have them serve me poached eggs on English muffins! Doesn't that sound wonderful!?

Today's list:
• snow-dusted pinecones
•
olive oil infused with garlic
• Gypsy music
• cobalt-blue eyes
• a serpentine alleyway

Snow, snow, snow ... no, no, no. ;) Not going for the pinecones. Olive oil infused with garlic is one that I know of pretty well. Used to date someone for a few years who loved it. Used it quite often. It's nice, and good memories of it, but not my favorite. Gypsy music isn't my thing, either. Serpentine alleways don't hold my interest.

So it's the eyes. Cobalt blue. I've always been drawn to those. Especially if it's coupled with dark hair. Wow. I love that combo. I'm always struck by that ... Paul McGillion or even Xena or Mel Gibson. And "going grey" with the blue, like Mark Harmon.

Definitely the blue eyes.

Today's list:
• Punxsutawney Phil
• the smell of a new shampoo
• independent movie theaters (blog)
• bars with sawdust-covered floors
• key lime pie (blog)

Ok, this one's the easiest one yet. Phil is cool, but I've never found him interesting or exciting. I grew up in South Dakota. We had 6 more weeks of bitter winter, no matter what Phil said. Shampoo is nice, some smelling wonderful, some not so much. I love movies, but never think of independent movie theaters as my favorite. I don't go to bars, so don't know if the ones with sawdust covered floors are all that cool.

So my favorite, and it really is one of my favorites, is key lime pie. Look, I drooled just typing it. That and sour cream lemon pies are my only pie loves. Of course, I'll eat any pie ... but if those are in the choices, those are the ones I take. This isn't helping me lose weight here ... LOL

Today's list
• a dramatic sunrise
• Post-it Notes
• a clever turn of phrase
• vintage tractors
• the bridges in Japanese gardens

Again, so many fun ones to pick from. I don't think I'd pick vintage tractors. That's the only easy one to eliminate for me.

I love dramatic sunrises. I have some great pictures of sunrises. Post-it notes are awesome (and no, Romy and Michele didn't invent them). Clever turns of phrases are very ... clever. Bridges in Japanese gardens are nice.

So I think I'm having a tough time choosing here ... I think I'm gonna go with ... dramatic sunrises.

Today's list:
• throwing a surprise party
• crayon boxes with sharpeners (blog link)
• bunny slippers
• ornate calligraphy
• going to the movies with friends

I'm not sure which to pick here. It's fun to throw a surprise party, but I'm not known for keeping fun secrets. When I was married, my husband got his birthday presents by December 1. I was too excited to wait. I don't like crayons - I prefer colored pencils. Bunny slippers are cute, but I don't own any. I have big fluffy purple ones. I don't do calligraphy, and couldn't even if my life depended on it.

So I'm choosing going to movies with friends. I love movies. I love friends. So that tops my list!

Today's list:

• the rhythm of a foreign language

We all know how much I love the cold ... ok, not really. So ice fishermen is out. Even if I'm not the one out there on the ice (and I have been once or twice), I get cold just watching them. I shake too much to construct a model. I can't retain foreign languages to save my life. I can learn a phrase one night, practice it all night, and the next day someone can say it to me and I'll be "huh!?" I'm pitiful. I don't necessarily need a wireless mouse, but I bet it'd be cool ....

I'm sticking with an old steamer trunk. I even have one I treasure. My mom had it for years and years and gave it to me when I was about 25. I thought it was beautiful. And she even took all the outer fabric off. LOL So it's in my garage, housing many items I have long forgotten about. One day I'll have a place for it ...
So today my favorite is an old steamer trunk.

Today's list:
• working off a big meal
• exploration
• bebop tunes
• a light dusting of snow
• crêpes filled with wild mushrooms

What is it with the snow? Personally, I'm done with it. I am not a winter person. Brrr. I also don't like mushrooms at all. So I've easily eliminated 2 items. So I'm left with working off a big meal ... I don't even do that. I lounge off big meals. LOL Hmm... so exploration and bebop tunes. I wonder what bebop tunes really are.

I'm going with exploration. It's so fun to go to a new campground and look around for fun new stuff. Or go on hikes to check out the area. I love this one.

Today's list:
• the smell of bread baking
• favorite Shakespeare passages
• art deco architecture
• the cocktail-hour pianist
• a bonsai collection

Finally I have a moment to talk about favorites! This one's pretty simple for me. The smell of baking bread. Although I enjoy Shakespeare, I don't really have favorite passages. Art deco architecture is interesting, but not something I think is my favorite. I don't do cocktail hour. Bonsai collections are nice, but take way too long to grow on your own. ;)

So I'm down to the smell of baking bread. Just the thought of it makes my mouth water. Thinking about the butter melting on a hot slice ... mmm ... Maybe one day I'll actually have time to bake bread again ...

Today's list:
• being surrounded by books
• cartwheels (blog link)
• a sigh of relief
• looking into a microscope (blog link)
• a short list of dream vacations

Well, I can eliminate one for sure, on account of my age and my size. I'm not doing any cartwheels! I don't like looking into microscopes cuz I have glasses that get in the way. I'd rather be on a vacation than have a short list of them ...

I do like sighs of relief, but they seem so brief. So I'm going with being surrounded by books. That's something I just love and can drool over. I collect certain books. Have about 770 in my garage that I'm swapping ... books is my answer, by a landslide, as my favorite.

Today's list:
• taking a break from the news
• wintry Vermont woods

Today's not so tough for me. I hate the news. Taking a break from it is something I do often, and for weeks at a time. The news just breaks my heart. I can't stand hearing about some of it, and it ends up depressing me for hours. And lace? Not my thing. I'm also not much for trying exotic fruit ... I'm kind of a wimp when it comes to trying new foods. And I think I've established I don't like winter much, so I won't go for the wintry Vermont woods.

That leaves me with wild bird calls. I do enjoy bird sounds. I can sit and listen to them for quite some time. I try to imagine what it is they're saying to each other ... I can get caught up in that, and watching them, for a long time before getting bored. So that's my favorite of the day. Wild bird calls.

Today's list:
• a down comforter
• flamingo pink
• starting a painting
• intense concentration
• a cat in a puddle of sun

I have two favorites on here, one of them not being flamingo pink. But do they mean the lawn flamingoes or the real ones? Hmm.... either way, it's not a favorite for me. Neither is starting a painting. Whenever I've done that, the only reason I've not finished is how terrible it turned out to look! So that just represents failure to me. And although I have to practice intense concentration for my school stuff, it's also not a favorite. Maybe because I have to do it so much for school ...

So that leaves me with a down comforter or a cat in a puddle of sun. I just love down comforters. But a cat in a puddle of sun ... Very peaceful scene. But that's so ... temporary ... So I'll go for a down comforter as my favorite.

Even so, here's a picture of Chel's cat, Soccer, in a puddle of sun....

Today's list:
• tea and toast
• reading a historical document
• the zen of an aquarium
• sticking to a workout plan
• real flowers on the kitchen table

Well, I don't drink tea, but I like toast as a quick breakfast. I really don't like reading historical documents unless they're my family history, which I do love. And I can never stick with a workout plan. The one time I was able to, I got Epstein-Barr virus and had to stop.

So I'm down to the zen of an aquarium or real flowers on the kitchen table. I like both a lot, but I find the zen of an aquarium easier to enjoy - since Chel is the one who does all the work with ours. So I'm going with the zen of an aquarium for my favorite today.

Today's list:

So many of these go together. A day in front of the fireplace on plumped pillows, reading wise quotations ... that might be a meatloaf night. And maybe potted palms around the place ...

I think it's a wonderful scene.

But if I had to pick just one for my favorite ... I think I'll go for plumped pillows.

Of course, the fact that I've been awake for many, many hours and am coming to the close of my graveyard shift might have something to do with that dreamy choice ...

Today's list:
•
having an epiphany
• making notes in a journal

• ashtanga yoga
• tea leaves swirling

•
soaring Gothic halls

One thing these lists do for me, for sure, is teach me new stuff. Like ashtanga yoga. And I got to check out soaring Gothic halls. Which were awesome. But I still don't know much about tea leaves swirling ...

A few things I liked more than the Gothic halls. Who doesn't love having an epiphany? I love those moments. Aha! Revelation! Cool! And we all know how much I love journals, so making notes in one is definitely a favorite! That's where all my epiphanies go, after all ...

For overall favorites, though, I'm going for the epiphany ... Which I just might have in a soaring Gothic hall. And make notes about in my journal ...

Today's list:
• learning a new word
• a winter hike
• icicle formations
• London broil sandwiches
• a kitschy museum

Wow. So many things I don't know. LOL And here we are loving winter still .... except me. I don't like winter hikes cuz I hate being cold. Icicle formations can be quite lovely, but still so cold. I didn't know what London broil sandwiches were, and I have never heard of a kitschy museum.

So we're down to learning a new word. I do love to learn new words, though I'd never thought of listing it as a favorite thing. But that's what we're choosing as a favorite today.

And my word to learn today: kitschy. Noun. Art in pretentious bad taste. Or Adj. Of a display that is tawdry or vulgar

Today's list:
• a light dusting of snow
• winning a basketball game
• sushi rolls
• a surprise from someone you love
• old corduroy trousers

This one's an easy one for me. I don't like snow much, unless I see it from inside only. I don't play basketball, and when I did, I was a bench warmer. I really dislike sushi. And corduroy must carry bad childhood memories. LOL

So I'm easily going with a surprise from someone you love. As long as it's not sushi or cords, we're good.

Today's list:
• a hot breakfast
• UGG snow boots
• paid bills
• joy
• sleeping soundly

Woah. So many wonderful things today!! The only one I won't go for is the UGG snow boots! I just don't do snow boots and didn't know much about UGG before looking them up. Sorry to be so old and out of the loop!

A hot breakfast. I love those. Especially if someone else makes it. I love to have breakfast, eggs, sausage or bacon ... Wonderful to wake up to that. Again, since I like it best when someone else makes it, I don't get it all that often. Chel and I do make a nice hot breakfast for the kids on Sunday mornings, though ... Just not that elaborate.

And who doesn't like paid bills?? I have about $45,000 worth if anyone wants to help us out with that one! LOL

Joy. That speaks for itself, doesn't it.

Sleeping soundly. Something I only experience when my kids aren't around! LOL I am not much for sleep - I think it's a waste of time. But when I do want it and I get to do it, I definitley want it sound!

Tough to choose today. But I'm going with joy. I think that's something we all hope for, and surely something I wish for everyone. Joy.

Today's List:
• red grapefruit
• crisp mountain air
• moisturizing lotion

• a cat’s contented sigh
• junk food on a road trip

The only two I don't like are grapefruit and lotion. I just don't like grapefruit. And I hate the way lotion feels. Now hand sanitizer I can handle. Never lotion.

So we have crisp mountain air. Wonderful stuff. Especially when you're out camping, you've just set up your camp site, you look around, take a deep breath ... amazing. Mmm. But a cat's contended sigh is nice and cute - and fun to hear. I love cats after all. And junk food on a trip! Can anyone beat that!? One of the best things about road trips is the junk food! Maybe we can go on a road trip and eat junk food, stop and smell the crisp mountain air, and listen to our cat sigh contentedly ... guess the cat idea might put a kabosh on the whole thing. I just pictured it clawing us all on the way up and us having to call a search party for it once we get there ...

So I'm going with crisp mountain air today. Without the cat.
