Early To Bed ...

Last night, sometime around 11:58pm, Chel says to me, "Whoever said 'Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise?"

I hesitate to give my response, since I'm pretty sure it was God* who said it. "I don't know, but I'm sure he was lying. Because 'Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man feel dead when he opens his eyes.'"**

Sleep is an interesting topic around our place. I think it's a sheer waste of time. Chel looks at it the way I look at chocolate: A gift from the Gods.

I'm the kind who hates naps. If, by some small chance, a nap wants to overtake me, I can lay down for 20-minutes, no alarm, and wake refreshed.

So why did Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) hit me? For those who don't know, EBV makes one quite tired. All I want to do is sleep. And then sleep some more. I had no idea what a gift I had in not having to sleep so often. Now I can feel a nap overtake me two hours after waking up for the day, lay down for what I hope is a few minutes, and wake up 4 hours later, feeling just as tired as I did before I laid down.

I'm thinking God/The Universe/Higher Power/WhoEver has quite a sense of humor. I mean, can't you see Him laughing sometimes? Not necessarily at us ... surely not with us ... maybe just a chuckle or two about us?

Now for me to figure out just what I'm supposed to learn from Epstein-Barr and sleep ... if there is any learning to be had, it had better be through osmosis ...

*Later research tells me it was Benjamin Franklin who said it. Not quite God.
** No idea who said that one, but I didn't make it up.
