Movie Review - March of the Penguins

I know this little film has been out for a while, but I just watched it a week or so ago. I liked it. I thought it was very well made. Morgan Freeman was the narrator, and I love him.

It documents, well, the march of the penguins as they leave their ocean home to come onto land and find a mate, raise one chick (if they're lucky), and then head back to the safety and comfort of the ocean.

I was blown away by how much these birds can take. This particular group traveled 70 miles to their rendezvous location, and basically stayed there for months on end, with no food, very sub zero temperatures, and strong winter winds. After the eggs hatch, the males and females take turns traveling back and fouth to feed in the ocean, and then come back and feed the chicks.

I thought the filming was beautiful, the area unbelievable, and the story touching. Being a nature lover, it was easy for me to enjoy and really appreciate this film. However, I think it was done well enough for anyone to enjoy.

I personally only half watched it. I have a hard time watching animals struggle, knowing I'll see some not make it. It breaks my heart. So I'd hear something interesting, glance over to watch, and leave as soon as it looked ominous. Aren't I a wimp? How'd I survive Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom when I was a kid?

But what I did see was great. I, too, love Morgan Freeman and hearing his voice narrate was perfect. The photography was amazing. The animals were incredible. And it wasn't boring like I thought it might be.

So to animal lovers, I'd recommend this movie. To wimps like me, it'll be tough in only a few places.

If you've seen this movie, what were your thoughts?

I thought this was a fascinating movie. It was sad to see the babies die, though :( And the grief that the moms go through ...

Ooh, I loved it! I took awhile to get around to watching it because I thought it sounded boring, but it's probably in my top 10 now.

I saw it and love Morgan Freeman too... and nature. But... well I fell asleep. It must not have been THAT good... I NEVER fall asleep during movies!

It was better than I expected it to be. I too loved watching the penguins and their behavior.
