Mother/Daughter Communication
She says I need better hearing ... I say she needs to speak more clearly. Wonder if we'll ever agree ...

What I thought I heard:
Sarah: Mom, my hairclips are gone.
Me: They're probably lost in your room somewhere!
Sarah looked at me as if I'd lost my mind ...
What was really said:
Sarah: Mom, my hiccups are gone ...

What I thought I heard:
Sarah, licking frosting from a birthday candle: I'm a Wiccan now, Mom.
Me, looking very surprised: You're a what!?
What was really said:
Sarah, licking frosting from a birthday candle: I have a wick in my mouth ...
I don't know ... me hard of hearing, or her not speaking clearly?

I'm you! It's horrible, isn't it? I even went to an ear doctor, and he said, we can get you hearing aids in an attempt to clarify things, but really it's not your ears, it's your brain.
It is her. My son mubbles so much, I thought I was losing my hearing. Then I realized it was him.

From past experiences with my two sons, I will have to be on your side! But with present experiences with my parents, I would be on your daughter's side. But then again, I am partially deaf in one ear...

Excellent! I say it MUST be her, not your hearing. I have the same problem. My whole family mumbles at me and then get upset when I misunderstand or say Huh?

Hi. I am visiting from the carnival. I once went and had my hearing checked because my family swears I cannot hear correctly, but my hearing is fine, so it must be them.

Yes, I think your daughter must be mumbling. Honestly, I have to ask my Sarah to repeat everything 3 times because (though she doesn't realize it) she's speaking Elfish.
I've ALWAYS had this problem. I hear what I think was said, but it turns out to be something completely different. I remember learning the words to For He's a Jolly Good Fellow from a children's record I played all the time. Can you guess what "for strawberry candy nine" was my version for in the song? I STILL hear it that way in my head, if I don't make a conscious effort to hear it correctly.
Kids talk so fast these days, I have trouble hearing correctly too! And then the fast talking along with mumbling...oy vey!
That happened to me once. I said something and my partner looked at me questioningly. He repeated back to me what he thought I said and some of the words weren't even proper English. ?!?!?
Virtual memory,to me, is something that I seem to be unable to ever have enough of. It's as if megabytes and gigabytes have become an inseparable part of my day to day existence. Ever since I bought a Micro SD Card for my NDS flash card, I've been on the constant lookout for large memory at cheap prices. It's driving me crazy.
